Going where no Realtors have gone before!  Property Tour Day takes on a new meaning in the northwoods...pictured are some of our agents touring the Montreal River acreage currently for sale.  Wait a minute...in the second picture, did Mitch & Nicky lose Bonnie somewhere on the 40???

Signs of winter's inevitable approach...Dave took these pictures of Michigan holly berry while on his morning walk.  What a terrific fall we have been enjoying!

Working hard or hardly working?  This is our Headwaters Team enjoying some downtime at Fields Restaurant in Wisconsin Dells, during the 2005 State Convention.  Our agents participated in continuing education, worked towards special designations and attended classes and seminars to help us provide better service to our customers & clients.

This is Presque Isle's version of heavy traffic...Kim Weide photographed this bear on Hwy P, making his daily commute.

Adam caught and realeased this nice 31 1/2 inch walleye on opening day.  The fish was caught on Presque Isle lake in 15 feet of water on a jig and minnow combo.  A great start to the season!

Does anyone remember Al Franken's 'Mobile Upright Unit' character on Saturday Night Live?  Besides posting a funny picture of my brother, I thought those of you who check his website for trail reports and the Virtual Ride might like to see how he does it.

If you enjoy snowmobiling and want to keep in touch with trail conditions, visit Adam at www.SkyviewLodge.com.

When it's THIS cold  during hunting season, the best thing to do is bag your buck right away so you can spend the rest of your time indoors.  This eight point buck walked up to me at about 9:20 am on Saturday morning, Opening Day, to investigate one of his scrapes. He was only about 25 yards away.

Musky fever must run in the family.  Pictured below is the 50" musky John Byrnes caught on the Presque Isle chain yesterday, using a sucker rig.  Unless something bigger comes out of the lake within the next week (the ice is on it's way - you can't fish forever!!!) this will probably be the biggest fish caught on the Presque Isle chain this summer.  Check out the mammoth head on this pig!!

Pictured below is the 49" musky Jack Byrnes caught last week.  I can't imagine being on the water on these cold Wisconsin nights, but I'm sure that the glory is all worth it.  Having caught three musky in the 40" range in the last week, Jack is enjoying his status as the current "Man of Musky" and will entertain any requests for personal accounts of his fishing adventures.
UPDATE AS OF 11/13/03 - Jack caught another one last night - this man is ON FIRE!

At the Annual General Meeting of the Northwoods Association of Realtors (NWAR) our very own Kim Weide received the Distinguished Service Award.  Kim's award was based on her outstanding service to NWAR as the  treasurer of the association, and for her efforts to better the real estate profession and her community.  Kim has been an associate broker with us at Headwaters for ten years, and we are all proud of her.  Congratulations Kim!

Today is a perfect October day, in the mid-50's with the sun shining.  The majority of leaves have fallen and the woods smell crisp & delicious.  I always think fall is sort of bittersweet, because it's the end to the summer & dying off of foliage, but one season gives way to the next in what is probably the most beautiful time in our area.  We really treasure days like today around here, both for their beauty and because in the back of our minds we're thinking ahead to winter.  Will it snow like crazy?  Most of us hope so.  How cold will it be, and for how long?  I've already had cause to pull out the box of turtlenecks & warm socks, and the long underwear won't be far behind.  But it sort of feels good to whip up some hot chocolate & think about reclaiming my space in the garage again.  Musky season can't last forever, and the boats will be in storage soon.  We've all heard the question, "so the winters are long & cold, right?" to which the answer is, admittedly, yes.  Those warm socks see a lot of use.  But in the end, I wouldn't trade the winter for a milder version of itself any more than I would the summer, fall or spring.  The intensity of each season leaves way for a greater appreciation of the next.
We'll see if I'm still along this line of thinking in March!

Amazing what you see while out walking your dog.  Gabriel and I came upon this Big Bull Moose track on our morning walk down Annabelle Lake Road yesterday.

And since when is the start of winter on October 1st?  Being lucky enough to live in the snowbelt also means that you have to get used to the white stuff in months like October and May.  This has since melted, but we hope it's a sign of a really white winter to come..

Several of our team members have just returned from the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, where we attended the WRA 2003 State Convention.  What a great way to remain motivated and focused on YOU, our clients and customers.  Continuing our education in real estate helps us to stay current with the latest trends, delivering top service to our buyers and sellers.  Admittedly, we had some fun too - here we are enjoying some down time!

  Aloha!

One lesson that continually "hit home" was your need for a terrific website!  Especially in recreational and second-home areas, out-of-town buyers are looking for a comprehensive site with information that is both relevant and current.  We will be stepping up our online efforts to provide you with the very best in real estate resources, and as always e-mail us with your suggestions.

At the state convention, we were also asked to identify our mission.  For almost 25 years Headwaters Real Estate has been specializing in Presque Isle properties, being the first (and only) stop for buyers and sellers in Presque Isle.  Our six agents consider themselves lucky to live, work and play in Wisconsin's Last Wilderness, and are experts in our field.  After we got the professional and creative juices flowing, we identified our mission statement as "The Team with a Total Commitment to their Customers and Their Community."  We feel it speaks volumes about our ability to combine efforts and work together for you, and our commitment to the Presque Isle area.

We will be updating this Realtors' Journal frequently to bring you a more personalized account of the happenings in our area; from community event information, to personal reflections and even pictures of the latest and greatest catch of the day.  Thanks for logging on and we hope to see you "Up North"!
